on a technical web site, I saw a review
of the " ALGONQUIN" geiger counter.
It was made about 50 years ago by an
inventor, Walter J. Woytowich,
in Deep River, (city) Ontario (province),
Canada, and the one on the web was
being re-built by a guy from Industry
Science Canada, who was wearing
surgical gloves, and posting picture
by picture, the inside of the unit,
and making notes on the genius of
the construction and design. Walter
was 50 years ahead ofhis time, in
designing an electronic device that
DID NOT use batteries.

HOW NEW? I put the light together from parts that he had on hand - right there
and mounted it on a new display card! BELOW is the front view..

from Deep River / Chalk River, and I had the opportunity to finally TALK to Walter
himself. I consider this an honour and a priviledge. It is on a par with meeting the 'woz',
(Steven Wozniak, the mastermind who designed the APPLE ) and meeting with
J. Robert Oppenheimer , the team leader of the Manhattan Project, which designed and
built the first Nuclear Bomb, (Trinity), in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

etc. This is a research project in itself,
along with GEIGER design theory , and associated
physics !
As I take apart the unit, I will post more
pictures, and comment on the diss-assembly,
and the restoration, and re-design. It will t
ake a while to do this. . .
As Well, I hope to assemble some

(added, above, Feb 17th
2014 ) get an original car heater,
(In the process ) and obtain the new
and vastly improved car heater,

plastic used on car engines, and is
designed with a powerful

stationary generator engines in the
far Canadian North,
(Baffin Island), and works perfectly...

Well, for the first time in its life,
my car refused to start last week, -
the direct result
of the nasty, bitter, cold during the
night. We had a couple of days where
the temperature
was officially below -30 degrees
Centigrade, with an even lower
"wind chill" factor, and
it certainly was accurate. People
with digital thermometers outside,
in forested areas
up here in the Frozen wasteland of
Northern Canada, report a few
degrees -even colder-
so that this year is the coldest
in 5 or 10 years... I had to cut
the FACTORY tie wrap
on the BLOCK HEATER cord, which
was tucked beside the car battery-
exactly where
where it was put, on the assembly
line during manufacture, so it was
clear that the block
heater had never been used.
THIS, is where and when you need
a WALTER J WOYTOWICH, circulating
heater.
People everywhere in this area had
difficulty starting their cars. Even
the next-door neighbour
with a brand new, huge pickup truck,
plugged in his vehicle! While the
computer controlled
ignition systems of 'today' increase
the voltage many times higher than
in the 1960's and 70's,
it is clear that at a certain point,
the frozen batteries, frozen oil, and
frozen transmissions,
still need a bit of warm-up, if you
are in the "Great White North" !
If you sold the Woytowich heaters
on a street corner in THIS weather,
you would not
be able to keep them in stock! Even
after hours of the typical
"BLOCK HEATER" warming
up my car, it just barely started,
and ran extremely slow for about
5 minutes before it
idled properly! Even then, the
interior car "hot" air blower, took
over 10 minutes before the
fan shaft motor bearings would work
without squealing, and even longer
before any sign of
warmth appeared. The Woytowich
'Circulating' heater pre-warms the
interior heater as well,
so that there is is an instantaneous
shot of warm air...
( translation: I want one...)

As usual, I am stuck in "CANADA", the great white North, where
every factory I have known has shut down... Recent Government/
Corporate policies, have every scrap of technology shutting down,
and being boxed up for shipping to CHINA, where the same
"unprofitable" factory, is running tripple shifts! Canada is
becoming a " 3rd World " country, if it does not already
deserve that status .... Products "could" be made here, but
the few remaining Engineering and Machining Corporations are
back-logged and ridiculously expensive. WAY, way, back in 1985,
a group of us tried to make, and market a small plastic
automobile device. The quote for the empty BOX, with colourful
printing, and a clear plastic display window, here in Canada was
over $6.00, The plastic injection mold halves were $60,000 with
a 6 month turnover... If there were any adjustments needed on
the molds, it would be another 6 months, and cost 10's of thousands...
We sent a prototype ( an early version, complete with many known flaws! )
to HONG KONG, and the quote was $500 for the machine molds
and 5 weeks. Adjustments were FREE, and made in a week or two...!
We got bogged down with world wide PATENTS, and to our dismay
and amusement, we discovered our 'prototype' in novelty stores,
only a few months later, shipped from Hong Kong, with the address
of a company in Great Britain! (SEE the upcoming, VANCOUVER THIEVES ! ,
